Moving!

Well God has opened some doors about the time we decided we needed more than 5 acres guess what? Mom and Dad moved! After 20+ years at the same company Dad QUIT. It shocked me to say the least. A few months later he was offered the senior pastor position at a small Baptist church about 40 miles from where I grew up. And he took it. Now Mom and Dads farm is empty. And we are taking it over. Our new journey is starting.
Tim quit his corporate job (scary) So that our family could be a family. We have big plans for our “new” home. Everyone teases me that after running so hard guess what I want to raise my kids the way I was raised.

Our house we are moving from

Polley "new" house she does no look like this any more :(

Mom and Dad have not worked on her much lately. She is now our project
Old house

So we are packing up. I forgot how stressful moving could be. We are having to move animals. We have 2 horses, 5 goats, a dog, a rabbit, a chicken and 4 cats all going with us. Once we get to the new house there is lots to clean up and fences to build. I will post some pictures soon

Home schooling!

When I mention I was home schooled all my life a lot of people become interested. So I thought I might share some of my experiences. And thoughts on some of the common misconceptions.

Home schooling is what you make it. This is the truest statement I can make.

How home school children interact depends on the parents. My Parents made us be involved in things. Home school groups, church, girl/boy scouts, basket ball, base ball , soccer, 4H, training and showing horses, showing goats, training and tuning bird dogs, Drama club just to name a few. We had lots of FRIENDS. The deference was I had friends of all ages. One of my very best friends growing up is 2 years older than my mother. Sherrie was NOT my mothers friend she was my friend, we are still very close.
School work… again is what you make it! Some of the things that taught me the most were Dads business trips. Because we were not “in school” Mom and Dad would load us up (yes all 6 of us) and off we would go. Mom would find interesting thing to see and do where ever we were going. I saw Cave dwellings, civil war battle fields (Shiloh and Gettysburg), the Hoover dam, Washiton DC I cant even name them all. While my friends that went to public school were learning about these things I was seeing them and touching them and they were alive to me! But Mom and Dad did not just make trips a learning experience one time on the way to the grocery store Dad pulled the car over and we went and picked cotton from a farmers field, As I sat there pulling cottern seeds out of the cotton Dad told me how slaves use to pick cotton and how the cotton gin pushed the world into a new industrialized age. Each of the “rabbit trails” led to new lessons in economics, history, cause and effect. We had lesson books as well I liked the little thin books I got one book in each subject each week. Mom and Dad made a deal with me if and when I got all my work done for that week the rest of my time was my own. I was given new book on Sunday if I had them all done by Tuesday afternoon the rest of the week I could do as I wished. I liked this method my younger brother not so much. Mom had to sit on him to get him to do school work. One thing that is nice is you teach to fit your child not force your child to fit the school. Yes I did my school work in my PJ’s but so what? Yes my education had some lackings but whos does not?

The second generation. I now have 2 sons both have up to this point been in public school (my hubby is not a home school fan) this Friday is there last day we will be home schooling them for the remainder of the year. Lets see if we can change hubby’s mind? Flee free to ask questions.

So here I am!

This is my first blog I am a little nervous. Please stick with me I’ll try to not make it boring. J
Our history …. My name is Devia and my husband is Tim we have 2 sons ages 8 and 5, their names are Bryce and Payton.

I grew up the oldest of 6 children, we were home schooled all our lives and had a strong Christian values. We lived in a map dot town, the town literally had a Baptist, church, a post office and a gas station at a yellow flashing light on a fairly major highway. Our house was 5 miles from “town” and I hated it. Like most farm kids I wanted to live near a movie theater a shopping mall and restaurants! At 19 I did the typical “take this town and shove it thing” and left! Mom and Dad were NOT happy. I made poor choice after poor choice after that. I married my husband (who was not a Christian at the time) and RAN from God as fast as I could. We lived in the city and kept trying to get more and more. To say we had a rough marriage would be putting it mildly. We separated many times and were right on the verge of divorce. God worked some miracles in ours lives and changed both our hearts. We both stopped running and Tim accepted Christ. We (Tim and I) have now had 2 blissful years of marriage, not perfect but happy and healthy for the most part.

In the last 2 years we have felt more and more drawn to a simpler life. A life biased on our Family and Christ. A life spent together working and sharing rather than trying to make more and more money. And trying to have more and more things.

We are living on 5 acres in south west Texas and have decide this is really not enough room for our growing family and for all the things we want to do. Guess what God has worked again and open a door. This is the story of us a Family in Texas trying to make the best of life. So where ever you are sit down grab a glass of sweet tea and join us on our adventures.
